What is a barn quilt?
A barn quilt is a painted square panel featuring a quilt pattern or bold geometric design. A popular form of folk art, barn quilts reflect a variety of patterns signifying family history, agricultural crops, or geometric shapes often painted in bold colors.
The roots of barn quilts trace back to the mosaic patterns first documented in Roman times. In the United States, barn quilts were initially used as a way to decorate barns. Today, more than 7,000 barn quilts are located on trails throughout the United States and Canada.
Little Flower Art Studio Barn Quilts
Our barn quilts utilize the best materials available require many hours of careful handwork. A completed barn quilt is at home in both exterior and interior spaces.
Design: Every barn quilt design is prepared and painted with meticulous attention to detail. Clients are directly involved and approve of the final design and color selections.
Base Material: Durable aluminum composite material (ACM) is used as the foundation of your barn quilt. ACM is typically used in commercial signage applications and eliminates the risk of your barn quilt splitting or warping. In most cases we use 3mm ACM. 6mm ACM is also available, but at an additional charge.
Paint: We use top-grade Sherwin Williams paint. Three or more coats of exterior premium paint are used to bring the design to life. Once the painted design has cured, two coats of premium clear topcoat are applied to lock in the colors of the design.
Wood Frame: Barn quilts destined for interior display are available with custom, solid-wood (poplar) framing. Frames are painted to match and provide elevation from the wall surface adding depth to the painting.
